A refuge of hope

Currently I am volunteering with Africa Mission Services: an organization partnered with Mara West that builds schools, churches, and provides a clinic and birth center for the Mara area. Maranatha, World Vision, and Compassion International are other organizations that help people and communities in Kenya.

If you watch this video, you will understand more about FGM: female genital mutilation- a problem that many Masai girls and Kenyan girls face when they are only adolescents. This is one of the prevalent issues we have to deal with at the Engos community clinic where I work. Maranatha is leading a teen and young adult project to the Kitutine school this July.

Yes in many ways the school here (still being built) is functioning as a safe place for high school girls to run too who are victims for FGM- so it is super similar. To be honest, I’ve been doing some different talks with the girls at the school. We did health, sex Ed, world cultures, and stress management. I know there are many projects that the school could use assistance with... that could need help.

Two questions

Will the school there for girls (that is still being built) serve the same function as the video you posted?

And, you mentioned working with educating high school girls on... what? Sex education? I’m wondering if there are materials that you need (or would like) to do that? If so, could we help?
